Car insurance company Admiral has unveiled its planned new headquarters in Cardiff.

Around 1,800 staff in three different offices in Cardiff will eventually be relocated at the city centre site of an old carpark near the St David's shopping centre.

The move is likely by 2014 with potential room for 3,000 staff.

The company is also looking at sites in Swansea as part of long term expansion.

The firm is in talks over a new major development at an out of town site, possibly Swansea Enterprise Park or Swansea vale.

It currently employs around 1,400 staff in the SA1 district but new premises in the city would have room for another 300 staff, if required.

The Wales-based insurer Admiral broke the £1bn sales barrier in 2009.

The group, which owns insurance brands including Confused.com, Diamond and elephant.co.uk also saw its turnover rise 33% to £720.5m in September last year.

Admiral Group now employs almost 4,000 in south Wales and is the only Welsh firm in the FTSE 100, the list of the UK's top companies.
