'Tombstoning' teenager rescued at Pobbles Bay, Gower

A teenager has been rescued by a lifeboat while she was "tombstoning" off the Gower peninsula.

The 18-year-old was in the water at Pobbles Bay with a boy of 17, who managed to get himself out safely.

Mumbles Coastguards called out their own rescue team, police and RAF Chivenor helicopters, and RNLI inshore lifeboats on Saturday morning.

Both teenagers had wetsuits and neither was hurt. The coastguard said the sea was particularly cold at the moment.

Tombstoning involves jumping into the sea from heights.

Steve Jones, watch manager of Swansea Coastguards, said people had to be aware of the conditions when taking part in such sports.

"We give safety advice that at this time of year sea waters are very cold," he said.

"You should carry out your risk assessments and be aware of the conditions and your limitations."
