Llanelli library, including the Athenaeum, is reopening after 18 months of restoration work

Events are taking place throughout the week to mark the reopening of Llanelli Library following a £3.8m makeover.

As well as work to preserve the older part of the Grade Two listed building, a new IT suite with 27 public access computers has been added.

There is also a new reference library, children's library, arts exhibition area and video conferencing room.

Pontypridd-born author Catrin Collier is among the guests attending Monday's opening.

Dozens of events will run throughout the week including school visits and performances, workshops, local history talks and poetry sessions.

Work to completely refurbish the adjacent Grade I listed Llanelly House is also progressing.

Along with the parish church, the Athenaeum at the library and Llanelly House are three of the oldest buildings in the town centre.
