Two canoeists have been found safe after capsizing in a swollen river at Carmarthenshire.

The pair managed to get to safety but not before rescuers were sent to the scene at Rhandirmwyn, near Llandovery, just before 13:00 GMT on Saturday.

Local shop owner Sian Thomas said she had not previously seen water levels so high on the River Towy.

A crew from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service had been called in by the ambulance service.

Initially, it was reported that one canoeist was missing.

It later transpired the emergency services were called after two people capsized and had gone into the water.

But the pair, including a man aged 60 from the London area, were soon found unhurt.
