A 19-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating a flare being set off during Swansea's Premier League game at home to Manchester United.

The flare, discharged in the away end after United scored, hit the stand roof and bounced down into the crowd.

Nobody was hurt in the incident last month but police called it a "totally irresponsible act".

The man was arrested in Oldham, Greater Manchester, on suspicion of having a flare at a sporting event.

He has been released on police bail pending further investigation.

Det Insp Darren George of Swansea Central CID said: "This was a totally irresponsible act which could potentially have resulted in far more serious consequences.

"I would like to thank those members of the public who came forward with information which has enabled us to identify and arrest the person responsible".

The incident happened at about 13:50 GMT on Sunday, 23 December about 15 minutes into the game, after United took the lead. The match finished 1-1.

Officers are appealing for anyone at the game and who witnessed the incident to contact 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
