Alan and Jan Parfitt said they will look after their family with the money

A couple who won £1m on the EuroMillions immediately went on a spending spree - to Lidl.

Alan and Jan Parfitt, from Pontardawe near Swansea, claimed their windfall would not stop them bargain-hunting.

District nurse Mrs Parfitt, 53, said she would continue to shop at discount stores but would splash out on a new freezer.

She said: "We will certainly look after our family and know that we can have a comfortable life from now on."

The couple "burst out laughing" when they realised they had won.

Mrs Parfitt said: "I know it sounds crazy, but it was such an unreal feeling knowing we had suddenly won so much money that I couldn't help it. In fact, I'm only just starting to believe it."

Her 56-year-old husband, who works as a joiner for a local construction company, said: "I had to wake Jan up to ask her to double check the computer results for me and she just looked at the screen and burst out laughing."

Mrs Parfitt said: "We've not only got Lidl nearby, but Home Bargains, Poundstretcher, Farm Foods and Argos. I won't be changing my shopping habits - although I might just get a bigger freezer."
