Three parts of Swansea city centre will be given a makeover after £2.6m of funding was secured.

Castle Bailey Street, College Street junction and Alexandra Road - which are off High Street in the city's Northern Quarter - have been earmarked.

Each will be landscaped and have new pavements, trees, pedestrian crossings and improved junctions.

The aim of the work is to improve the links from Swansea train station to the city's marina.

Swansea council's cabinet member for regeneration Nick Bradley said: "The city centre has seen millions of pounds worth of investment over the last few years which has made a great difference to the main shopping areas as well as areas like Lower Oxford Street.

"Now businesses and residents in the Northern Quarter will see improvements taking place over the coming months with new pavements, better pedestrian crossings and new trees to replace the old.

"There'll also be some road improvements to help manage traffic in the area too."

The improvements are being funded through the Waterfront City Programme which includes money from the European Regional Development Fund, the Welsh government and Swansea council.
