Ludwig is safe and well after being rescued from the refinery

An otter has been rescued after getting himself trapped beneath a fast moving conveyor belt at a Swansea nickel refinery.

RSPCA officers were called to Vale Europe Ltd's refinery in Clydach on Tuesday after staff spotted him.

The adult otter - named Ludwig after refinery founder Ludwig Mond - was quickly cornered and rescued.

After a visit to the vet he was taken to the RSPCA's specialist wildlife centre in Somerset for rehabilitation.
