Work on a new £5m road in Carmarthen which will pave the way for a large new housing development is due to start.

The Carmarthen West link road will provide access to an area of the town earmarked for 1,100 new homes.

It will also ease congestion and provide direct access to the University of Wales Trinity St David and the proposed new S4C headquarters.

Clearance of the route starts this week, with the road completed by 2018.

The road, off the A40, needs to be completed ahead of work to build the new homes, a primary school and a small retail centre.
