Alltwen fire: Jac Davies inquest opened and adjourned

The family of a four-year-old who died in a house fire can begin planning his funeral, after a hearing into his death was opened and adjourned.

Jac Davies died following the blaze at his family's home in Alltwen, Neath Port Talbot, on 27 July.

His mother Jennifer Davies, 28, managed to escape with her 11-month-old baby and daughter Kelsey, six, while son Riley, three, was rescued.

On Thursday, Swansea Coroner's Court heard police inquiries were ongoing.

During the hearing, coroner Colin Phillips issued an interim death certificate - meaning Jac's family can start arranging his funeral.

'Blue-eyed boy'

It was adjourned and a pre-inquest hearing set for 25 January 2017.

After the fire, Ms Davies paid tribute to her son in a hand-written statement, which said: "My big, handsome blue-eyed boy - you're my life, my world, my everything and will never, ever forget you.

"Go ride your train up to heaven and wait for me.

"Kelsey, Riley and Andrew will always remember you."

The community has since donated scores of items to the family, whose possessions were damaged by the fire, and has set up a crowdfunding page.
