Plans to close two Pembrokeshire primary schools and establish a 3-11 school in their place were backed on Thursday.

Full council voted in favour of closing The Meads Infant and Nursery School in Milford Haven and Milford Haven Junior School from 31 August 2018.

The new school will make use of both the infant and junior school sites.

A statutory notice will now be published and the new school will open in September 2018.

Concerns raised during the consultation period were the size of the proposed school, younger pupils mixing with older children, a single head teacher across two sites and traffic and parking changes.

Pembrokeshire council said the new school was needed as the current schools require additional capacity in order to meet the growing demand.

It would also help to improve efficiency with the sharing of resources.
