New circuit plans to make Carmarthenshire 'cycling hub'

Plans which aim to transform Carmarthenshire into the "cycling hub of Wales" have been unveiled.

The county council has allocated £500,000 to develop a closed road cycling circuit at Pembrey Country Park, and is inviting the public to have a say on the plans.

The track will be used for recreation, as well as staging local and national cycling competitions.

It is expected to generate an annual income of over £25,000 for the park.

Earlier this year Carmarthen velodrome opened after a £600,000 renovation project.

Executive board member for culture, sport and tourism, Peter Hughes-Griffiths said: "Here in Carmarthenshire, it is our ambition to become the cycling hub of Wales".

He said the circuit will be to British cycling standard and will help boost an "already growing tourism economy".

People will be able to have their say online or at Llanelli library.
