Indie filmmaker 'following in Danny Boyle’s footsteps'

A filmmaker from Northumberland has screened his debut short film at Tyneside Cinema after being inspired to take on the challenge of a production by working as a director’s assistant to Danny Boyle.

Jacob Stockton, 27, graduated from Northumbria University in 2022 and, like many creative graduates, struggled with what to do next.

It took two years until he landed his first job in the film industry - on Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later which was shot on location across the North East last year.

“It’s amazing to see bigger productions coming up and shooting around your area,” said Stockton.

Following his experience on set with Boyle, he set his sights on his own short film - Man on the Hill - which then had its grand North East showing in the same cinema where 28 Years Later premiered.

The short also found success at the Tees Valley International Film Festival where it took home a prize for Best North East Film, the 'Parmo D'or'.
