General John Allen, the US general who has taken over as commander of international forces in Afghanistan, has said the pursuit of al-Qaeda will be relentless.

He was speaking at a ceremony in Kabul to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks on the US.

General Allen said: "Together with the Afghan people we will prevail."
