Welcome to my page

A warm welcome to my new page here on the BBC News site. This will be the home for my thoughts on events and issues in the worlds I cover from Cairo to Kabul, New Delhi to New York, as well as highways and byways in between and beyond.
It's also a place where you can see my television reports, hear my radio stories, find out about my fellow travellers. And you can also post your comments too - please do.
I tend to prefer going back to places where I have lived and worked, where I've seen some of their history firsthand, felt the heat and dust, see familiar faces. But, occasionally, it's good to explore new places too, to help see the world a bit differently.
My compass also leads me to explore culture, seek humour and savour moments that take you by surprise.
My new page starts on a trip back to Tunisia, my first visit since I saw their historic revolution in January 2011. It was a extraordinary moment in this North African nation, a moment that inspired an entire region. The rest, as we say, is history. It's a privilege to keep watching it unfold first hand, and to write about it too. I hope you'll join me.
