Pope in historic talks with Russian Orthodox leader

It is being seen as an historic step towards the healing of a 1,000-year-old rift between two religious leaders.

On Friday night, the Pope and the head of the Russian Orthodox church met and embraced in Cuba - something that was unthinkable for centuries after a bitter schism that split Christianity.

The two churches were brought together again by shared concerns over the persecution of Christians in Syria and Iraq.
