Ugandan Asian recalls leaving for a new home in UK

Forty years ago, dictator Idi Amin expelled many of Uganda's 60,000 Indian and Pakistani people from the country.

Bharat Manek was 11 years old when he and his family had to leave Africa for a new home in Leicester in the UK.

Despite Amin being deposed in 1979, Mr Manek only returned to Uganda in 2007 to take up a job as a teacher in a Kampala school.

Speaking to his cousin, Asian Network reporter Rupal Rajani, Bharat Manek describes hearing the news of his family's imminent expulsion to Rupal, their terrifying journey out of the country and arrival in a rather chilly UK.
