Biker boss jailed over deadly airport brawl in Sydney

A motorcycle gang leader has been sentenced to prison for the murder of a man during a bikers' brawl at Sydney airport.

Mahmoud "Mick" Hawi, who was Comanchero national president, was given at least 21 years in prison. He was found guilty of murder in November 2011.

Anthony Zervas died from massive head injuries inflicted during the fight.

Police say it erupted when members of the two groups assembled at the airport's domestic terminal.

The New South Wales state Supreme Court jury found Hawi, 31, guilty of the murder of the brother of Hells Angels member Peter Zervas.

Hawi's sentence is for a non-parole period of 21 years, with a maximum of 28 years.

At the time police said about 15 gang members were involved in the fight, which was witnessed by about 50 people.

The gang reportedly used metal bollards in the check-in area as weapons, swinging them like swords.

The judge said both groups had shown "a flagrant disregard" for both the law and other people present in the terminal.
