Chinese student causes uproar with US graduation speech
A Chinese student has caused uproar at home after she praised democracy in her graduation speech in the US.
Yang Shuping was criticised by Chinese social media users for drawing a parallel between air pollution and the restrictions on free speech in her country as she addressed the University of Maryland.
She has since apologised, saying she was "surprised and disturbed" by the reaction to her speech and "deeply loved" her motherland.
