The local government is the main media player in Macau; it runs terrestrial TV and radio stations and subsidises the press.
In 2021, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) criticised the editorial interference of management of Macau and Hong Kong's public broadcasters and urged the governments of the two special administrative regions to cease their attacks against press freedom.
There were 632,000 internet users by July 2022, comprising 95% of the population (Internetworldstats.com). Facebook is the most popular social network.
