Australian PM Tony Abbott refuses to deny smuggler payments

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has refused to deny reports that an Australian navy ship paid the crew of a migrant boat to turn back to Indonesia.

An Indonesian police chief has reportedly claimed that 5,000 dollars was paid to the operators of the vessel.

Speaking to Australian radio station 3AW, he said he was ''not going to get into hypotheticals''.
