Katie Taylor makes final of World Boxing Championships

Ireland's Katie Taylor has secured a place in the final of the World Boxing Championships in China.

The Bray boxer beat Tajikistan's Mavzuna Chorieva 16-6 in the semi-final in Qinhuangdao on Friday morning.

She has already secured a place in the 2012 Olympics in London by reaching the last four of the tournament.

After her fight, Taylor told RTE said was "delighted to be in another final and one step closer to retaining my world title".

The three-time world champion will meet Russia's Sofya Ochigava in the final on Saturday.

If Taylor wins Saturday's fight she will be installed as number one seed in the lightweight division in London.

That was earn her a bye through to the quarter-finals at the Olympics which would mean that she would only need to earn one win to be guaranteed a medal in London.
