In pictures: Berlin Wall protest
- Published

Protesters have forced builders removing a historic section of the Berlin Wall to stop work.

Developers were taking down part of the wall to allow access to a riverside plot where they are building luxury flats.

Some 300 protesters came so close to the wall that building work could no longer continue. One of the banners read: "Is culture worthless?"

Some of those demonstrating scuffled with police but there were no reported arrests.

This section of the wall is known as the East Side Gallery.

Since German reunification, the stretch of the wall has been kept as a historical monument, becoming an open air gallery painted with colourful artwork.
