Portugal football legend Eusebio has died at the age of 71, after heart and respiratory problems. One of his memorable goals for Benfica was in the European Cup final against AC Milan at Wembley in 1963.

Widely considered one of the best players of any era, he scored 733 times in 745 professional matches.

Eusebio da Silva Ferreira, shown here with Luis Figo, was born in Mozambique in 1942 when it was a Portuguese colony.

He went on to play for Portugal 64 times, scoring 41 goals for the national team and was a legend for Benfica.

Eusebio trains for a match against England at Wembley in 1961. His performances in the UK captured the hearts of the British public. Eusebio was named European footballer of the year in 1965.

At the 1966 World Cup finals in England, Eusebio scored nine goals, including four against North Korea and this penalty against Russia in the third-place play-off.

Portugal had gone out in the semi-finals, losing 2-1 to England.

During his 15 years at Benfica, Eusebio contributed to 10 league championship victories and five Portuguese cup triumphs. He was Portugal's top league scorer seven times. He is shown here with Fifa president Sepp Blatter in 2011.
