France is in shock, the morning after gunmen carried out a series of shootings that killed dozens of people in Paris

Outside the Bataclan concert hall, where more than 80 died were killed, were the remains of the night's desperate attempts to save lives

Emergency staff worked through the night to recover the bodies of the victims

There was also evidence of people having fled in a panic after the shooting started

Newspaper front pages talk of "war in central Paris", horror and carnage

Gunmen also targeted restaurants and bars on a busy Friday night - about 14 people died outside this bar and the nearby Petit Cambodge restaurant

Witnesses described hearing what they thought were firecrackers, before they realised that the sound was gunfire

At the restaurant La Belle Equipe, as many as 19 people were killed
