Woman held as car 'rams Irish Government Buildings gates'

A woman has been arrested after apparently attempting to drive her car through the gates of the Irish government buildings in Dublin

Broadcaster RTE reports the vehicle driven by the woman in her 50s drove into the gates at Merrion Street at about 10:00 BST on Tuesday.

Gardaí (police) have arrested her on suspicion of causing criminal damage. No injuries have been reported.

Government Buildings houses several key offices.

They include the Department of the Taoiseach (prime minister), the Department of Finance and the Office of the Attorney General.

The car's driver is reportedly being held at Pearse Street Garda Station.
