Berlin Zoo animals feast on unsold Christmas trees

Animals at Berlin Zoo have been enjoying a belated festive dinner, feasting on unsold Christmas trees.
It is seen as a way to minimise waste and help zoos which have been financially hit by the pandemic.

Bison nibbled on the trees. They are a rarity on the zoo's menu and contain essential oils and fresh needles, tantamount to sweets for animals, the zoo says.

Siberian ibexes tried some too.

Reindeer used their antlers to play with the trees.

An Asian elephant had a tree on its back.
