French election: Macron's rivals celebrate projected parliamentary gains
The mood was jubilant among supporters of Emmanuel Macron's rivals after gains in the French parliamentary elections were projected for both the Nupes left-green alliance and the National Rally.
Far-left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon said Macron was facing "total defeat", while the far-right Marine Le Pen promised to "unite all the patriots on the right and the left".
Both ended their speeches on a similar note: "Long live the republic, long live France".
