A murder investigation is under way after the body of a man was found at an apartment in north Dublin.

Irish national broadcaster RTÉ has reported that the victim was Seán McCarthy, 28, of Poppintree in Dublin, who was reported missing by his family on 2 August.

His body was found by Gardaí (Irish police) on Achill Road, Drumcondra, on Saturday evening.

RTÉ has said it understands Mr McCarthy had been shot.

A man in his 30s has been arrested and is being questioned at a north Dublin garda station.

He can be held for up to seven days.

Officers have cordoned off a section of Griffith Park in Drumcondra as part of the investigation.

Mr McCarthy was last seen in Drumcondra, and gardaí and Mr McCarthy's family had expressed concern for his wellbeing.

The body remains at the scene and the State Pathologist has been notified.

A post-mortem examination will take place to determine the cause of death.

RTÉ reported that members of the Garda Water Unit searched a stretch of water within the park on Sunday morning.
