Plans to cut Beau Sejour creche reconsidered

Guernsey's culture and leisure department has said it will reconsider plans to cut creche facilities at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre.

But Minister Mike O'Hara said the status quo, with £41,000 being lost each year, was not an option.

Parents angered by the move to reduce opening hours and increase charges have started a petition.

Deputy O'Hara said they would consider their views when the department discusses the matter again.

The current proposals would save £25,000 a year, but Deputy O'Hara said it was just part of a wider move to save money across the department.

He said this may include the loss of the centre's two flumes as the structures were out of date and costly to maintain.

Deputy O'Hara said: "There's a huge amount of money that has to be spent on them and they're 20-years-old and only have a lifespan of 10, it's costing us about £40,000 a year to maintain so there's a problem there."
