Guernsey States employs domestic violence charity

A UK charity has been recruited to work with victims of domestic violence in Guernsey.

The Bournemouth-based charity Family Matters already works with victims of abuse in the south west of England.

It offers help and advice to get through the legal, financial and emotional aftermath of violence.

Its staff will represent victims at meetings with police and other agencies when discussing the best way to proceed with individual cases.

The charities' employment, by the Policy Council's Social Policy Group, forms the latest stage of implementation of the island's new domestic abuse strategy.

It is due to begin operating from the end of the year.
