Guernsey's new police chief Patrick Rice has been sworn in before the island's Royal Court.

He took over the role from George Le Page, who retired at the end of July after 43 years in the force.

Mr Rice was appointed to the post of Chief Officer of Police in May from his previous job as commander of the City of London Police.

He had been with the force for more than 30 years and previously worked with Essex Police.

Mr Rice said he would review the island's force before making any change, but freeing up officers for a more visible police presence locally was one of his priorities.

He said: "Policing is quite a complex environment, it's not just about neighbourhood policing.

"There's having that capability to be able to deal with emergencies, to be able to deal with homicide investigations, so it's about me examining the whole spectrum of policing and seeing how we can make the force fitter to deal with those challenges."
