Guernsey inflation nearly 0.75% below UK rate

Inflation in Guernsey was nearly 0.75% lower than the rate in the UK, according to figures released by the States.
Figures for May to June 2010 show it was running at 2.4%, below the States target of 3% and the UK's rate of 3.1%.
The States' economist said competition from internet shopping had forced local retailers to keep their prices for white goods and clothes low.
Dr Andy Sloan said that had kept a lid on the island's inflation rate.
The report for the quarter said there had been reduced pressure from the housing market and from fuel prices, which has also contributed to the low overall rate.
