Call for spending on flooding risk research

A Guernsey politician has called for money to be spent now on research into how the island can best be protected from coastal flooding.
BBC Guernsey has learnt that States emergency planning staff consider flooding the second highest risk to the island after a flu-type pandemic.
Deputy Mark Dorey said research on flooding was vital: "It's so likely to happen we can't ignore it.
"We have to do the various work now so that we are fully prepared."
Deputy Dorey said: "We shouldn't be investing that money when we need it, we need to invest it up front so we're fully prepared, so we don't have the problems that flooding causes."
