Scheduled direct flights from Guernsey to Germany could be on offer for the first time from May 2011.

Air Berlin has applied to operate a 76-seater plane on a weekly service to Dusseldorf, on Saturdays.

The Commerce and Employment Department, which is responsible Air Transport Licensing, said the final details were being worked out.

No licence is required for the route as it operates directly to Europe from the island.
