Alderney targets coarse fishing tourists

Alderney Tourism hopes the development of coarse fishing will attract more tourists to the island.

More than 1,200 carp have been released into Corblets Quarry by Alderney resident Jonathan Gates.

Joanna Parmentier, marketing manager for Alderney States, said course fishing was a multi-million pound industry across Europe.

She said she was hopeful the island could achieve its own success and become a hot spot within the UK market.

Mr Gates spent £6,000 on the fish stocks, which range from 3-20lbs (1-9kg) in weight.

Fishing is carried out on a strict catch and release basis with anglers expected to use unhooking mats and barbless hooks.
