Guernsey's animal shelter needs more fish donations to cope with one of its hungry guests.

Pumpkin, a grey seal pup, was taken to the Guernsey Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals shelter after being found near Vazon Bay on 27 October.

Jayne Le Cras, operations director, said people had been generous but the seal ate up to 20 mackerel a day.

She said: "We still need more and he'll be up to eating 30 a day soon."

Normally seals found in the island are sent to specialised sanctuaries in the UK to prepare them for release in the wild, but a nationwide outbreak of seal pox has prevented this.
