Guernsey police operation boosts visibility

Police in Guernsey increased their frontline presence for 24 hours in an operation designed to tackle trouble-spots and reassure the public.

Police temporarily redeployed back office staff to allow more officers on the beat as part of Operation Action, which began at 0700 GMT on Saturday.

The operation included vehicle checks and high-profile community policing.

More officers were also on patrol in the centre of St Peter Port on Saturday night to prevent any trouble.

Guernsey Police said the purpose of the operation was not only to catch offenders, but also to reassure the public that police were visible, and to help reduce the fear of crime.
