Snowfall closes Guernsey schools
- Published
All Guernsey colleges and States schools closed on Monday due to icy conditions on the roads after overnight snow.
John de Carteret, administration manager at the Education Department, said: "Due to the adverse weather we had concern for children's safety."
However, St Anne's school in Alderney has stayed open, but pupils were told only to travel if it was safe.
Police have asked motorists to be careful on the roads due to black ice.
They described conditions on Forest Road and along the coast road between Grandes Rocques and Vazon as "particularly bad".
Guernsey Airport reopened shortly after 1100 GMT. Snow clearance work on the runway started at 0515 GMT.
