Children with flu in Guernsey told 'to stay home'

Parents in Guernsey have been warned to keep their children away from school if they show flu-like symptoms.

The advice follows news that two islanders are recovering from the first confirmed cases of swine flu in the island this winter.

Elaine Burgess, the lead infection control nurse at Princess Elizabeth Hospital, urged parents to be vigilant.

She said: "It's very easy to transmit, especially in children. They should be off school."

Ms Burgess added: "It goes the same for anybody that is in a work environment, a close environment, an office - if you're not feeling right and you think you're coming down with flu-like symptoms please don't go to work."

The island's health authorities have also announced a further 2,000 doses of influenza vaccinations are due to arrive in the island later this week as the original stock of 7,000 was running low.
