Christmas lottery gives £200,000 to Guernsey charities

The 2010 Channel Islands Christmas Lottery has donated more than £200,000 to the Association of Guernsey Charities.

The most successful lottery in its history broke all previous records for ticket sales.

This allowed £30,000 more than was raised in the 2009 event to be given to the charitable group.

The £213,391.84 will be allocated based on bids put forward by the 260 organisations in the association.

Malcolm Woodhams, association treasurer, said: "This is an amazing result. Every year the traditional Christmas Draw gets bigger and better.

"We try to share out the money to a large number of charities and we like to support a range of local projects."

Deputy Francis Quin, chairman of the lottery advisory panel, said: "This is a fantastic result, especially in these challenging economic times.

"There will be many charities that will benefit from the proceeds. I really would like to say thank you to all who bought Christmas Lottery tickets."
