Over 90 teams took part in Guernsey's annual fundraising Everest Challenge over the weekend.

The challenge is for people to climb about 30,000 feet, which is the height of Mount Everest, on the climbing wall at Le Murier School.

Gary Dovey, the organiser of the Everest Challenge, said: "The event went very well and we raised an amazing amount of money."

He said the money was still coming in but so far £15,150 had been pledged.

The money raised at the challenge pays for off-island trips for Le Murier school pupils.

Last year the money paid for camping trips to Herm, Jersey, Wales and France.

He said: "The teamwork that is involved and the perseverance and the personal challenge and responsibility is an important thing for pupils to learn."
