Alderney's poor water 'consigned to history'

Mr Brown said the year-long build came in under its £700,000 budget

The installation of a £660,000 water treatment plant should solve Alderney's problems with poor quality drinking water, the island's States has said.

The facility at Battery Quarry was found to filter water to levels above the UK and European guidelines.

Martyn Brown, the project manager, said: "The island has long suffered with inconsistent quality and colour.

"The topic of island bath water has become an unwelcome legend but one that is now consigned to the history books."

The year-long States project came in £40,000 under budget.
