Guernsey social housing plans put forward

New social housing could be built in Guernsey to meet the needs of older tenants.
Plans for Le Clos Barbier, 24 apartments off Rue Jehannet, St Martin, have been submitted to the Environment Department.
The Guernsey Housing Association development has been designed to house elderly people currently occupying large family States houses.
If passed construction would start in January and take about a year.
The one-bedroom ground-floor apartments will be primarily for those already living in St Martin or the upper parishes.
They have been designed to cater for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility and each have a small garden.
The first-floor apartments will have a roof terrace to ensure residents still benefit from outdoor space.
The buildings have also been designed to be energy efficient.
