Guernsey Police Complaints Commission to be debated

Guernsey could have a Police Complaints Commission by July, if the States agrees to draft legislation.

The independent body has been designed to oversee, rather than investigate, complaints against the local force.

The Home Department said the commission's primary role would be to increase public confidence in the way complaints were dealt with.

It said this must be done "openly and transparently", so the public trust the way the force reacts to criticism.

The draft legislation is due to go before the State at their June meeting.
