Guernsey shop owner fears for future of Bridge shops

A Guernsey shop owner based on the Bridge has raised fears about the future of the area.
Kevin Beausire, from Signature City, said landlords were offering leases to charities but not businesses and it was affecting the prosperity of the area.
The Channel Islands Co-Operative Society owns many of the shops and is planning to redevelop the area.
Julie Shingles, head of property, said they could not guarantee businesses what the length of lease would be.
She said while work was continuing behind the scenes on the Leale's Yard redevelopment the company was keen to help out charities to ensure shops were not left empty.
The issue of the rising number of empty and charity shops on the Bridge was discussed during the meeting of the States of Guernsey on Wednesday.
