Alderney Wildlife Week hailed a 'success'

The 10th Alderney Wildlife Week has been hailed an "exceptional success" by the manager of its Wildlife Trust.

Roland Gauvain said even more islanders and visitors joined in with events including foraging, woodland discovery, bee keeping and bird races.

He said it was hoped the Living With Your Island theme would encourage people to learn more about nature.

Mr Gauvain said the global recession had people looking nearer to home.

He said: "We're concentrating on the theme of getting to know and use your island.

"During the recession and increased financial constraints people are beginning to turn back to allotments, to fishing and all those traditional practices that we used to take for granted in the islands.

"This year we felt let's have a look at how we can do that and do it in such a way we manage our environment in a beneficial way for all of us."
