Guernsey's Greffier Ken Tough to retire in August

Ken Tough, Her Majesty's Greffier for the Bailiwick of Guernsey, has announced he will retire on 1 August.

His duties have included being clerk to the island's courts and the States and registrar-general of births, deaths and marriages in the Bailiwick.

Mr Tough will have served in the role for 30 years by the time he retires.

Guernsey's Bailiff, Sir Geoffrey Rowland, said: "Ken has served with great distinction. He has an unrivalled knowledge of Guernsey's court system."

"He has served alongside five Bailiffs and over that time has been responsible for ensuring that the court has successfully adapted to the significant increases in the volume of work coming before it, which has more than doubled since the 1980s," he said.

"He stands out by virtue of his length of service and his focus on developing and improving the Royal Court's buildings, facilities and systems to deliver cost efficiencies and make information more accessible."

Mr Tough will be succeeded in the role by Jon Torode, who has been working alongside him since the start of the year to enable a smooth transition.
