Scotland could be ally on Guernsey renewable energy

Guernsey could co-operate with Scotland on developing renewable energy, says the island's treasury minister.

Deputy Charles Parkinson was speaking after attending the British-Irish Council meeting where he met Scottish politicians.

He said: "They can help us enormously because they are technologically far ahead of where we are.

"They have been almost surprisingly friendly considering we are, in a small way, a potential competitor."

The British-Irish Council brings together leading politicians from the UK, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

Guernsey Electricity says tidal energy could provide a clean source of energy for the island and could potentially enable electricity to be exported to Europe.
