Mr Birmingham said Alderney's economy did have strengths

Alderney residents have been asked to take part in a survey aimed at shaping the future of the island's economy.

The States of Alderney commissioned Guernsey-based company Island Analysis to consult the public on the matter.

States member Matt Birmingham said it was a good time to take a look at Alderney's finances, diversify the economy and plan for the future.

He said: "The credit crunch did show some weaknesses within the structure of the island's economy."

Mr Birmingham said the island did have some strengths, in its gaming industry and its commitment to tidal power.

He added that any feedback from the survey would be put towards forming a "road map" towards a new economic plan.
